Traditions Holiday Lighting and Seasonal Decor was founded in 2011 just in time for the holiday season. We specialize in Christmas lighting and holiday decor, combining high quality products with a unique design and personal touch that only we can offer. We pride ourselves in our ability to produce eye-catching designs that meet our client’s needs.

Growing up, my parents did everything they could to make holidays memorable. It would be impossible to list everything they did, but a few examples include drinking classic glass Coca Cola bottles with our turkey dinner every Thanksgiving, spicy chili and garlic bread every Halloween, and most importantly, a family trip to the local Christmas tree farm.
If there was ever a question of whether or not they’d continue, my parents would always hear the phrase,”But mom and dad, it’s tradition!”, from four unhappy children. So for as long as I can remember my family has created and continued many holiday traditions. Entrepreneurship has always been a dream of mine as well. It’s a dream come true to be able to take a passion of mine and share it with a customer. I’ve had the opportunity to experience what holiday traditions can do for families and I can’t wait for the opportunity to help make your holiday traditions brighter.
Phil Sutter
As a young boy growing up on our family farm, I learned the true meaning of hard work and dedication. I used this throughout my schooling, which lead me to Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Outside of school, I’ve always had a strong passion for giving and helping others. These passions are what led me to help start Traditions Holiday Lighting and Seasonal Decor.
I remember the many times driving around looking at Christmas lights with my family. Now more than ever, the Christmas season is a special time for me. Nothing compares to the smile on a client’s face as they see their home decorated with lights for the first time. I look forward to providing you with the very best of lighting and decoration in order to give you that special look you’ve always wanted.
2011
With no business training and little experience as professional lighters… Traditions was founded in September, just in time for the season to begin. Founders and friends, Phil Sutter and Zach Zweifel, only 20 years of age at the time, began their journey into the holiday lighting world with no idea of what was to come.
No background, minimal capital, other full time schooling and work obligations, and very little advertising…. That’s the recipe that led Traditions to complete their first season with a whopping six clients.
2012
With one season under their belt, Traditions was ready to grow their client base. Ads went out, calls came in. Experiencing over 350% growth, the season ends with 22 clients.
2014
Expansion takes over once again as Traditions takes on large projects spreading from Janesville to Stevens Point, and everywhere in between. Seasonal help is brought on to help meet labor requirements.
Traditions also enters into special event lighting, being requested for wedding lighting on several occasions.
2016
The landscape lighting division is launched! Several custom projects are completed the final few months of summer.
Due to growth in the holiday lighting division, Traditions’ management team gains a new full-time member.
2018
Traditions Marquee LOVE Letters won Wisconsin Bride Magazine – Best of 2018 – Editor’s Pick for Best Decor Idea and was awarded Couples Choice on Wedding Wire for 2018.
Since launching the landscape lighting division in 2016, Traditions has completed over 150 landscape lighting jobs.
The team joined NARI – Madison and Madison Area Builders Association.
2019
Traditions officially launches its event lighting and décor brand, Aurora Events. The brand has been in the works for over a year and provides innovative décor and lighting services to the Madison area and surrounding cities.
The holiday lighting division continues to gain more amazing clients.
