Adding Color
There are two brands that we work with when installing landscape lights. FX and Kichler. Both are top of the line in terms of quality and durability, but there are differences in what each brand of fixture can do for your display.
FX Light Fixtures
We tend to recommend FX lights for those who want a high level of customization and control in their landscape lights. Out of the box, FX fixtures have the ability to change to any color in seconds, all independently of each other. The fixtures can also be programmed to change brighten or dim at different times. This means that after a packer game, you could set your front lights to alternate between green and gold at 100% all night long while your backyard lights dim to 50% at sundown and then turn off at eleven. The transformer that comes with the FX lights is highly customizable and designed with complicated displays in mind, which makes programming easier.
FX lights are also upgradable. If color lights are not immediately in your budget, it can be added at a later time. The light board that controls the fixture can easily be replaced to make the fixture color ready. We encourage customers to experiment with one or two lights in the front of their home to see if color is right for them.
Kichler Light Fixtures
Kichler lights, on the other hand, tend to have more options in terms of daytime aesthetic. The fixtures have more design options, are generally brighter, and are more affordable. They still have a lot of the customization in terms of dimming and zoning ability, but programming the transformer to show more complicated displays is trickier than it would be with FX lights.
Final Thoughts
Overall, if our clients are interested in playing with color and really want to take control of their lights, we highly recommend FX. If they are just looking for a hands off, beautiful display that doesn’t need to change color, then we recommend Kichler.
Either way, both brands are of exceptional quality and last for years. The decision is all about making your lights work for you in the best way possible.
