Landscape

Pewaukee, WI

Located in Pewaukee, this landscape lighting project included both front of home and backyard lighting. For lighting products, we decided on flat black, FX Luminaire fixtures throughout. We found this to be a good match, due to the home already having black accent lamp fixtures in place.

The goal for this project was to replace our client’s existing solar lighting with a low voltage lighting system that would function much better and provide a high quality of light. As solar lighting grows in popularity for retail stores, we often come across displays such as this. The client starts by purchasing a few solar path lights and ends up with needing several more due to a lack of light. With low voltage lighting on the other hand, we are able to create a much brighter display, with even fewer fixtures.

The front display included seven uplights along the house and three spread lights to highlight the walkway and plants leading to the front door. The back display was more simple, with five path lights and two uplights. For an extra bit of light, we decided to add one more uplight on one side of the home. It shines up a small bush, creating a very large shadow structure on the home siding.

Although a fairly simple overall landscape lighting display, there are few specific design features to point out:

  • On the evergreens in the backyard, we decided on a much wider beam angle that typically used. This allows for two small uplights to cover the entire set of evergreen shrubs and disperses the light throughout.
  • Even though the front spread lights and backyard spread lights have the same “top” design to them, there are different riser heights for both areas. In the front, there is a good amount of plant material that we wanted to light… requiring a taller spread light. With no plant material in the back however, we could use a shorter riser. It may seem like a small difference, but using too tall of risers with now plants around, can create a “runway” effect that we like to avoid.

Overall, this project went as planned and this home now stands out among the crowd in this neighborhood.
