12 Ways to Completely Transform your Backyard
  1. The first step to any great backyard is the grill. Nothing brings people outside faster than the smell of dinner grilling on coals.   Here is a link to some of our favorite recipes!

  1. The worst part of being outside is the bugs. No one likes a week’s worth of scratching for one good day in the yard.  Keep the mosquitoes away with an inground repellent system! NuTone offers fixtures that can run power from low voltage landscape lights!

  1. Do you enjoy the smell and look of a rainstorm, but are not so keen on the wet park? Turn part of your open porch into an enclosed porch. The screen sides and covered roof give you shelter from the harsh sun and weather, but leave the space open for a cool breeze and a great view.  Here is a great tutorial if you want to a weekend project with the family.

  1. Once you have your sitting space created, think about what you would like to sit on. Find furniture that complements the space without being too big or bulky. If you plan on seating more than four people on a regular basis, think about benches over individual chairs. The space you save opens up more room for maneuvering with all of the hot grill food!

  1. If you like to move your seating around or are not ready to commit to one style, consider the perks of building your own seats out of hay bales!  It can get a bit messy, so we wouldn’t recommend it for a porch, but in the backyard, it’s a great addition to spaces away from the fire. We love doing these for weddings and special events. Be sure to have extra blankets at the ready!

  1. If you are at all like us, then good music is an absolute must for a grill out. We were so happy to find this Sonarray system for outdoor music. It’s completely weatherproof and turns any backyard space into a musical oasis.

  1. Once you have the music set to your favorite pandora station, good food in your stomach, you are set for the perfect sunset. But your night doesn’t have to be over once the sun goes down. Light up your space! Low voltage lights are a common upgrade for any homeowner looking to up the curb appeal, but few opt to install the fixtures in the spaces that they use the most!

  1. Fire pits function as both a great way to cook that perfect s’more and as a social hot spot. People gravitate to fires naturally, both after the sun goes down and before. Most times, the area around the fire pit is the most trafficked and holds the fondest memories of a night out under the blanket of the stars.

  1. Edison bulbs, or cafe lights, depending on the shape and material, are some of our favorites. They are weather resistant, classy, and add an immense amount of light to any backyard space. Whats even better is that they are highly customizable, so no matter what size your space is, we can make it work.

  1. If you are one that has a huge yard or one with lots of trees and tripping hazards, you might want to think about lighting up some of your more used paths. This can be done with fixtures and cafe lights, depending on how permanent you would like the display to be.

  1. If you like the aesthetic of the Edison bulbs, you will love the look of a vine ball. They look fantastic hanging above a space or scattered about your lawn and patio furniture.

  1. Last but not least: use your holiday lights during the warm months! They create a fantastic display while offering the practicality of light in the dark. Check out our favorite ways to use Holiday Lights during the summer.
